Children’s Mental Health Ontario is deeply concerned about the closing of the office of the Ontario Child Advocate. CMHO has looked at all details regarding the closure of the Child Advocate Office which provides children and youth with the right to voice their concerns about their mental health care to an independent advocate. The intention of the government is to close and transfer those responsibilities to the ombudsman. We are deeply concerned about this. We have looked at the evidence and to children’s rights experts and the model that best protects the rights of children is through a separate office. It’s important that youth have an independent advocate to voice their concerns. The most vulnerable kids in our province are at risk.
