April 30, 2018: Children's Mental Health Ontario (CMHO) is very pleased with today's announcement by Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford about plans for a major investment of $1.9 billion over 10 years in mental health, addictions and housing supports. CMHO is also pleased to hear that the Ontario PC Leader intends to direct matched funding of $1.9 billion by the federal government, resulting in a total of $3.8 billion investment.

Although not specifically mentioned during the announcement by Ford, CMHO believes that the $1.9 billion investment will include increased investments specifically for children and youth community-based mental health care services.

In explaining how the funding will be spent, Ford committed to building community capacity to provide evidence-based care and support that will reduce pressures on hospitals and reduce wait times for services. We were also very encouraged by the commitment to work closely with service providers including Children's Mental Health Ontario, Canadian Mental Health Association (Ontario) and Addictions & Mental Health Ontario.

"Today's announcement by Ontario PC Party Leader, Doug Ford shows that providing quality and timely mental health supports to families in Ontario is a priority," said Kim Moran, CEO of Children's Mental Health Ontario. "We are pleased that the Ontario PCs have listened to our calls for immediate increased investments to reduce wait times and increase services to children and youth facing mental health issues no matter where they live and when they need it. This promised investment signals that all three Ontario political leaders are finally making mental health and addictions a priority."
